Rogers and Hammerstein’s most beloved musical, The Sound of Music, is based on the real-life story of the Von Trapp Family singers, one of the world’s best-known concert groups in the era immediately preceding World War II. The musical tells the story of Maria, a young postulant in an Austrian abbey, who takes a job as governess to a large family while she decides whether to become a nun. She falls in love with the Von Trapp children and their widowed father and vice versa. After the Captain marries Maria, he is ordered to accept a commission in the German navy, but he opposes the Nazis. Denying his new command, he and Maria decide to flee from Austria with the children. Performed by the UWG Theater & Music Departments and our own youth theater program. Directed by Pauline Gagnon.
